Four in One

When you first start finding out about chain maille you may hear the words four in one, this is making reference to the fact that every ring has 4 others through it.
There are other variations such as 6 in 1 and 8 in 1, these are tighter weaves and are therefore a lot stronger, and of course a lot more work.

The following image is of 1.57mm wire with an inner diameter of 8mm in a 4 in 1 pattern. It is quite light and very flexible.

The following image is of 1.57mm wire with an inner diameter of 8mm in a 6 in 1 pattern. The maille has become heavier and is less flexible.

The following image is of 1.2mm wire with an inner diameter of 5mm in a 4 in 1 pattern. This maille is a nice weight and offers a lot of protection.
Maille 1.2mm 5mm diameter 4 in 1 pattern

The following image is of 1.2mm wire with an inner diameter of 5mm in a 6 in 1 pattern. With this aspect ratio (wire size to inner diameter) and in a 6 in 1 patter this maille is inflexible and would not be of any use for areas where movement is required.

The following image is of 1.57mm wire with an inner diameter of 10mm in a 4 in 1 pattern. It is quite light and very flexible.

The following image is of 1.57mm wire with an inner diameter of 10mm in a 8 in 1 pattern. It is not very flexible.
